RESCUE ISLAND
Right in the middle of the sea, there is a newly arisen state which has been changing every day. A transitory island made up of boats and rafts. A Babel of languages and hardship which appears and disappears in the waves of the Mediterranean and too often merges with its waters. Rescue island has been emerging daily since the nineties. While waiting for Europe to make decisions that respect human rights and create a sea road that connects us to Rescue island, several NGOs have made arrangements so as to provide first aid in international waters, to those fleeing from the African continent by sea, starting from Libya. The Sea-Eye is one of these associations and carries out its mission thanks to donations as well as the shift work of volunteers who serve on two boats the Sea Eye and the Seefuchs every two weeks . They are ordinary people, doctors, paramedics, cooks, boat license holders and helpers from all walks of life who try, in first person, to react towards the unacceptable tragedy of the dead at sea which now manifests itself daily in the central Mediterranean.
Un nuovo stato in mezzo al mare nasce e muta ogni giorno. Un’isola transitoria costituita da barche e gommoni. Una Babele di lingue e sofferenza appare e scompare tra le onde del Mediterraneo e troppo spesso si fonde con le sue acque. Rescue island emerge quotidianamente fin dagli anni novanta.Nell’attesa che l’Europa prenda delle decisioni rispettose dei diritti umani e crei una strada del mare che ci colleghi a Rescue island, diverse ONG si sono organizzate per effettuare il primo soccorso in acque internazionali a chi fugge dal continente africano via mare partendo dalla Libia. La Sea-Eye è una di queste associazioni e svolge la sua missione grazie a donazioni e turni dei volontari che ogni due settimane prestano servizio su due barche la Sea Eye e la Seefuchs. Sono persone comuni, medici, paramedici, cuochi, possessori di patente nautica ed aiutanti di ogni estrazione sociale che in prima persona provano a reagire alla tragedia inaccettabile dei morti in mare che si manifesta incessantemente nel Mediterraneo centrale.
